Professor Babak Akhgar OBE

Director

Babak is Professor of Informatics, Director of CENTRIC and a Fellow of the British Computer Society. He graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in Software Engineering and later gained considerable commercial experience as a Strategy Analyst and Methodology Director for several companies. He consolidated this experience by obtaining a Master's degree (with distinction) in Information Systems in Management and a PhD in Information Systems.

Babak has more than 100 refereed publications in international journals and conferences on information systems, specifically focusing on knowledge management (KM). He is a member of the editorial boards of three international journals, Chair and programme committee member of several international conferences. Babak is the editor for the book series Security Informatics and Law Enforcement and has co-edited several collections on various topics in the security domain.

He has extensive and hands-on experience in the development, management and execution of KM projects and large international security initiatives (e.g., combatting terrorism and organised crime, cyber security, public order and cross-cultural ideology polarisation).

Babak was awarded an OBE in June 2022, the second highest order of the British Empire award, in recognition of his services to security research.
