Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime Research
Who Are We?
The Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime Research (CENTRIC) is a multidisciplinary, security-focused research centre at Sheffield Hallam University. We collaborate with research, government, industry and security stakeholders to address contemporary security challenges at the local, national and international levels. We are a diverse team of researchers, technology specialists and security experts focused on delivering tangible solutions for law enforcement and other security stakeholders. This combination makes CENTRIC uniquely placed to offer innovative applied research, professional expertise and training in the modern security environment.
Our Mission
Our mission is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge applied research and the operational reality of policing and security, building a safer society for all. We aim to transform innovative ideas into outcomes that protect and safeguard our communities, shape the landscape of policing and security practices, and ensure a more resilient future. Our collaborative ethos ensures practitioners, policymakers and researchers have a platform to work together to deliver exceptional applied research in the security domain.
Our History
Formed in 2011, CENTRIC grew out of a collaboration with academics and law enforcement agencies from the UK and USA, recognising the opportunity to bring high-quality, applied research and technology-oriented solutions into the security sector. Since then, our research and development portfolio has increased rapidly, with many successful, high-impact projects and flourishing national and international collaborations.
Our dedicated workspace at Sheffield Hallam University provides a base for our expanding team, who deliver expertise across all our domain and capability areas. In addition, this facility provides space for the activities of the Open-Source Intelligence Hub, the development of immersive reality experiences and room for researchers and practitioners to collaborate on innovations that address the latest security challenges.
