project logo

Thursday, 15th May, marked a significant day for CENTRIC’s AI Accountability for Policing and Security (AIPAS) project. During a visit to Sheffield Hallam University, Ms Abena Oppong-Asare MP was formally presented with the project’s newly published Guidance for Implementing AI Accountability in Policing by CENTRIC Director, Professor Babak Akhgar OBE.

The guidance provides concise, step-by-step directions on how to implement AI accountability, setting out the considerations, safeguards and resources for comprehensive risk assessment and risk management for AI in UK policing. It is tailored to address three primary audiences:

-  Chief Officers
-  AI Users within the Policing and Security domain
-  Oversight Bodies

Based on the principle that advanced technological capability must be matched by advanced accountability measures, the guidance aims to sustain the legitimacy of policing in a democratic society, ensuring that public trust is not only maintained but strengthened in the face of technological change.

For further information on the guidance please contact CENTRIC at centric@shu.ac.uk
