PERIVALLON

Protecting the European territory from organised environmental crime through intelligent threat detection tools

PERIVALLON aims to provide a comprehensive intelligence picture of organised environmental crime and develop tools and solutions for preventing and detecting such types of criminal activities and for assessing their environmental impact. PERIVALLON uses technologies such as geospatial intelligence, remote sensing, online monitoring, risk assessment and analytics to enhance the investigative capabilities of LEAs and Border Guard Authorities. The data collected by PERIVALLON will lead to the development of an Environmental Crime Observatory while also improving international cooperation, regulation and policy-making in this area.

PERIVALLON focuses on four main use cases: the detection of illegal waste disposal, dumping of polluting substances in land and water (e.g., asbestos and oil spills), transnational illegal trafficking of electronic waste and equipment, and the illegal trade in ozone-depleting substances and HFCs. In PERIVALLON, CENTRIC is developing approaches for monitoring online spaces for unlawful activity related to environmental crime and a secure data storage platform for digital evidence.
