AIPAS
The challenge for Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) is balancing the significant opportunities AI presents to safeguard society with the societal concerns and expectations about its responsible use. Accountability is at the core of the UK Government's efforts to ensure responsible AI; however, it is highly abstract. Building on CENTRIC's global work on AI Accountability from AP4AI, AIPAS will design the practical mechanisms and software tools LEAs in the UK need to assess and implement AI Accountability for their AI applications. These solutions will not only support AI Accountability during deployment but also proactively during the design, development and procurement stages.
CENTRIC is the lead organisation for AIPAS in collaboration with the Innovate UK, North East Business Resilience Centre (NEBRC), and the Metropolitan Police Service. The project delivers a series of outputs including an Accountability Framework for AI in UK policing, associated implementation and use case guidelines, a citizen consultation, an updated version of the AP4AI software tool and public awareness activities.
